Bird Men and Monument

Bird Men in a Public Park.
Originally, the Tangata manu (bird-man), was the winner of a traditional competition on Rapa Nui (Easter Island). The ritual was an annual competition to collect the first Sooty Tern (manu tara) egg of the season from the islet of Motu Nui, swim back to Rapa Nui and climb the sea cliff of Rano Kau to the clifftop village of Orongo. This representation has them in giant statue form and mingling with the people in a public park!

The Scott Monument, Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott, it was completed in 1844. The tower is over 200 feet high, and has a number of viewing decks reached by a series of narrow spiral staircases giving panoramic views of Edinburgh and its surroundings.
